James Marion Spear

James was the father of Ada Spear Ferris. After Ada's mother, Martha Fisher Downey , died , he married Ellen Jones. Ellen raised her stepchildren and had many of her own . She resented raising the step-children and thus caused much hardship for them. I think this is one reason Ada married at age 15 and was willing to travel to the wilderness of Oklahoma in a covered wagon with three small children . Tom Ferris' half brother, Archie Grey, and Ada's brother, Scott Spear, traveled with them.
James and Ellen moved to Glendale, California in the 1890s.
