William Calk helped settle Boonesborough, Kentucky, lead by Daniel Boone. William surveyed the town and built a cabin there. Sarah joined him in 1776. He claimed forty acres of land east of Boonesborough and named a spring, Calk Spring, and built a cabin there used as a hunting cabin.

William is the grandfather to Amanda Ferris. Amanda is Tom Ferris' mother.
